I had my last day at Emitwise yesterday, and now I’m in the odd liminal space that happens before I start my new job next week.
I’ve spent two years now working out of the games industry. I’ve really missed it. There’s something about the process of shipping a game - frantic and frenetic as it is - that you just don’t really get in the rest of the technology industry. My own work on Feud and Growl has been tiding me over but it got to a point where I felt ready to go back.
Happily, this coincided with friend of the show Vitor getting in touch to tell me about Companion Group, where he works. Companion is a small but rapidly growing co-development outfit crewed by some very talented folks, including a fair few I worked with back at Improbable. My favourite bit of Improbable was probably building backend services for games like Scavengers and Nightingale, so it’s very exciting to me that I’m going to get to do that kind of work again.
I start next week. Wish me luck! In the meantime I’ll be doing DIY, a process which apparently never ever ends.
